Coaches Corner for July 20
Morning, Barracuda Nation.
(1) Brookside Meet
Thanks for the wonderful meet this weekend against Brookside. I know it was a long trip out, but they were wonderful hosts. We lost by about 300. We earned 61% time improvements to their 58%. My philosophy this meet was to get us ready for Cameron and I to do entries for the Divisional meet. You saw a lot of swimmers get legal times in IM, breast and/or fly. This is exactly what we wanted. It gives the coaches options when we do entries for the championship meet next weekend.
(2) Record Breakers
We broke two team records this weekend.
Aiden Grendysz, swimmer coach and William and Mary commit, broke his own record from last year in the 100 IM. It was an amazing race; the swimmer from BHST whom Aiden beat also broke their team record.
Olivia Thomas, eight and under backstroker, became the first eight and under in team history to break 20 seconds in the 25 back. The record was held by swimmer-coach Grace Harper.
Congrats to both!
(3) Divisional Champ Rules
Divisional Championship week is here. Coach Cameron and I will do our best to create our best meet sheet to win another title. Remember. Your swimmer must have competed in at least TWO meets to be eligible. No exceptions. Last night, I sent out a reminder email for those who have not declared if they are attending. We need this done NOW. We are only allowed two relays for each event.
(4) Parents (from Shala)
If you have a swimmer competing at Divisionals next weekend, please sign up to volunteer and/or donate. If you have completed your 10 volunteer shifts and don't mind helping out, there are many positions that still need filled. It takes all hands on deck to run divisionals. Thank you so much.
(5) Pep Rally
On Friday, we will have a pep rally at the pool. The team will be purchasing guest passes so the non-HOA swimmers can enjoy the pool during the pep rally Friday. Please email president@ridgewoodbarracudas.
(6) Meet Timeline
On our website, you will see (under the Meets and Events tab) information about Divisionals. We will be team A. Note that we will have a smaller camping area than usual, since there are two other teams there. Timeline:
RWB Swimmer Warm-Up 5:30-5:55am
RWB Swimmer Check In - 6-6:30am
RWB Cheers and Relay Organization - 6:50
Meet Starts - 7
Meet Ends - 1pm (don't quote me)
(7) Adult Swim
We will only offer two Masters (adult swim) lanes this week. We will offer one session from 8:15-9am. We will offer another session from 9:45-10:30am. The second session made our 9-10 practice too crowded. Also, we will compete in two parents relays at Divisionals. Each swimmer will have to do a 100 fly. Not really - a 25 free. If you are interested, I will have a sign up sheet at the pool in the middle of the week.
(8) Little Cuda Session C
Our last Little Cuda meet will be Friday from 8:30-9:30am. Come see what our youngest swimmers have learned.
(9) Oakwood
We will offer Oakwood make up this week from 4-5pm. Please RSVP. I only have one lane, so I want to know who's coming. Oakwood is offered from Monday - Thursday.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. A huge THANKS to all parents and swimmers for the coaches' appreciation food, cards and schwag! We are so lucky to have this community behind us.
John
