Coach's Corner for June 14
Good morning, Barracuda Nation. This week offers some big changes to the schedule, so please read closely, and ask questions if you need clarification.
(1) ASHLAND MEET
At the Ashland meet this weekend, we earned 54% time improvement and had 15 swimmers complete a legal swim for the first time. It was terribly hot, but again, we improved and showed sportsmanship. Wonderful cheering and positive vibes and/or aura. Thanks, as always, to the parent volunteers who ran the meet quickly and fairly,
(2) MONDAY, JUNE 15
On Monday, June 15, we switch to morning practices (see below). To celebrate the end of the school year, we will hold two special events on Monday. ALL swimmers must arrive at 7am for the team picture. Please wear team suit and team t-shirt. We will take a team photo first, and then families can order individual/family pictures. The pool will be closed until all photos are taken. Then, we all enter the pool together (around 8, or whenever pictures are done) for our annual swim-a-thon and breakfast. More details at the pool. But - all groups will be in the water at the same time.
(3) PRACTICE SCHEDULE AND POOL USE
On Tuesday, June 16, we switch to morning practices, and we will keep the following schedule for the rest of the summer:
13 and older - 7:15-8:15am
11 and 12 - 8-9am
9 and 10 - 8:45-9:45am
8 and under - 9:30-10:30
Notice there is a fifteen minute overlap between groups. We will use that time for dryland (out of the water) exercises, ribbon awarding and/or deep end work. Make sure all swimmers have water bottles and towels for dryland and practices. The pool water will be much warmer, and kids are cramping up. While the whole pool is ours, please remember to clean up after your swimmers are done. The baby pool is NOT ours during the morning sessions. The vibe/aura is so much better in the mornings, and we have plenty of room to work with your swimmers. This week, and every week, we assign a coach to work on the swimmers' DQs. So, expect your swimmer who DQed to get some small group work on those little mistakes.
(4) LITTLE CUDAS
We welcome Little Cuda Session A on Monday, June 15. They will swim from 9:30-10:30am this week and next. They will meet Coach Bella under the American flag at 9:30. Bella is the best developmental coach I know, and your kids will have a great time with her.
(5) PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Volunteer Update from Shala:
-A few volunteers still needed for Saturday's meet against the Westridge Waves.
-The volunteer sign up for July’s meets (except Divisionals) and morning parking lot duty will be open on June 27.
-Thank you to everyone who has given their time to make our first two meets great! The coaches and board appreciate you!
Any family who volunteered will be entered into a drawing for a parking lot spot for this week''s meet. I will notify the winning families on Thursday. Shala
(6) OAKWOOD MAKE-UPS
We will offer an hour of swim at Oakwood Pool from 4-5 this week, from Monday thru Thursday. Please RSVP to the email below if your swimmer needs to attend. This week, we will offer it to any swimmers who will miss morning practice. I know there are a lot of camps going on. Since we only have one lane, we might have to divide up the time.
(7) WEST RIDGE MEET AT HOME
This Saturday, June 20, we welcome the West Ridge Waves to our pool. Please commit your swimmers by Wednesday, June 17 at noon. We want to give ourselves the best chance to win, and the extra time will help us plan ahead. This promises to be the closest meet of the season, and by committing your swimmers early, our meet sheet guru (Coach Cameron) can work his magic.
(8) PARENT SWIMS
Check the website if you are interested in swimming as a parent. Last year, we started a very successful program where we offered practices and technique advice to our parents. We will offer an hour of swim time to parents during the 11-12, 9-10 and 8 and under practice slots (Monday-Thursday).
Thanks.
Coach John
