Coaches' Corner for June 12
Morning, Barracuda Family.
(1) West Ridge Meet
For the first time in over 10 years, we defeated West Ridge. The gap was about 200 points. To me, the truest measure of a team's success is time improvement - we out "dropped" them 41 to 38%. It was a wonderful (and lightning quick) meet. and thanks to all families for their support and spirit. Special shout outs to the amazing Little Cudas who did their first meet with us this weekend. And to the dancers who both swam and performed at Miss Linda's dance recital on the same day!
(2) Swimmer Health and Observations
The week's weather looks hotter and more humid. We require water bottles for all swimmers for practice. Please make sure water bottles are re-usable AND have names on them. We already have a box full of water bottles in the lost and found. Also, parents have alerted me that swimmers are coming to practice on bikes, without helmets. We have a close family friend who crashed on his bike and it required multiple surgeries. Let's be safe and smart. Lastly, let's remember to be good to each other. I do not want to hear any curse words on deck. I do not want to see any pushing. I have seen other things about which I will talk to kids and parents this week.
(3) Little Cuda Meet
On Friday, June 26, we will hold our first little cuda meet of the season. It will be during regular practice time (9:30-10:30am). Come watch and see what your little ones have done. Thanks to Bella and Camilla with their swimmer coaches they have learned a lot.
(4) Old Bridge Breakers
We visit our friends from down the street on Saturday, June 27. See their website for more details
https://obb.swimtopia.com/visitor-information
We share the tennis courts with OBB for tenting. The timeline:
5:45-6:15am - swimmer check in at the tennis courts
6:20-6:50am - RWB warm-up
7am - First event
Please make sure you complete attend/decline by Wednesday, June 24 at noon.
(5) Oakwood
This week, we offering an amended Oakwood schedule. I have at least 10 swimmers who are interested in coming, and we only have one lane. RSVP below if you are interested. We will break it into two 30 min sessions.
10 and under - 4-4:30pm
11 and over 4:30-5pm
The Oakwood pool closes immediately at 5 for LRPRA lessons.
(6) Coaching Plan for the Week Ahead
There are two ways to get faster in the pool - decrease drag and increase efficiency. We will work on both. Decreasing drag means tighter streamlines, cleaner starts and turns and better body position. Increasing efficiency means getting stronger in the water. Expect some tough workouts this week. We will not do a Monday Funday this week, but, if we swim well against OBB, we will have one next week.
Happy Father's Day.
Coach John
