Coaches' Corner for July 12
Morning, Barracuda Fam. We only have two more weeks together - and we have a lot of activities planned. Please read below and let me know if you have any questions.
(1) Wellington Meet
Final Score - We lost by about 1000.
Important Score - RWB 49% time improvement; WELL 48%
It was a tough meet. Thankfully, the rains cooled the pool a bit, so the water was much more comfortable for competition. I want to stress that we will NOT call for swimmers to report to the Clerk of Course and that RWB swimmer behavior in the Clerk, behind the blocks and in the team areas are areas of focus for my staff. We will have some conversations with your swimmers this week. It is easy to be sporting when things are going well, but it is more important (and challenging) to be sporting when things aren't.
(2) Swimmer Health
By the end of the week, the air temp will near 100, and the water temp will creep up. All swimmers must have water bottles. We plan on some challenging practices over the next week and a half as we prepare for divisional championships. Come on time and ready to work.
(3) Twilight Practice
One of our most wonderful traditions is the annual Twilight Practice. 13 and over swimmers ONLY will swim from 9-10:30pm on Tuesday, July 14. The pool will be closed to all except for 13 and over swimmers. Since we will practice in the evening, the 13 and over swimmers will NOT practice on Wednesday morning. All other practices this week are at normal times.
(4) Brae Mar Meet
We travel to Bristow for our final dual meet of the season. Old timers might remember this pool as the "lily pad pool" which has an interesting architectural challenge at one end of the pool. Please complete ATTEND/DECLINE by Wednesday, June 15 at NOON. See their website for information for visiting families. Their pool deck is smaller than ours, so let's keep kids off deck.
Timeline - RWB Swimmer Check In - 5:45-6:15am
RWB Warm Up - 6:30-6:55am
Relay Org and Meet starts - 7am
(5) Little Cuda Session C
Our last two week session of the Little Cudas begins on Monday July 13. They will swim from 8:30-9:30am for the next two weeks. Please meet Coach Bella and Coach Camila at the American flag at 8:30. The shallow end will be closed to non-LC swimmers for the entire time.
(6) Oakwood
We will offer Oakwood practice this week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4-5pm. RSVP below by emailing me.
(7) Divisionals Reminders
Our last meet is the Green Division Championships on Saturday, July 25. Much more information later - but please complete ATTEND/DECLINE today so that we can have plenty of time to plan. Coaches will choose all events and relays for all swimmers as we compete to win.
Thanks
Coach John
